The Power of the Mind

Why do some people give up so easily whilst others are true survivors? Well, its got to do with 2 perspectives. Our outlook in life, i.e. our attitude to life and our daily energy levels.

We have heard stories about mental strength and what it can accomplish.
Some time back, the story of a coach and 12 children trapped in a cave in Thailand for 9 days without food (and more than 2 weeks in the cave before being rescued)  is one such story. They were obviously weak from the lack of food but never gave up hope. In fact, the children shared details about how they tried digging their way out, whilst spending the rest of their time meditating.

Then of course, there are the whiners, those who complain about life, how life is so unfair to them, how unlucky they are. There are also those who face tragedies and major challenges and are unable to deal with the blows that come along in life. This causes their outlook in life to turn south.

The difference is that some are able to get themselves out of the rut whilst others simply give up on life. Newton’s law states that a body in motion stays in motion whilst a body at rest stays at rest. Now, Newton’s theory shouldn’t be directly mixed with psychology here but think about it. I

If one decides to rug up and stay under the blanket all day moaning about life, that’s a sure sign they will give up and stay in depression. The trick is to force oneself to get out of bed and start moving. Its amazing how being on the move can also help to change one’s outlook in life.

Get out. Meet people. Smell the roses. Look at the birds in the sky. Pat a puppy. Soon enough, we will be back where we should be, performing, and living life.

So, jump out of bed each morning. Tell yourself it will be a great day. And chances are, it will be.
