Blessed Birthday

I woke up one morning earlier this month to the smell of banana waffles. Yes, there was some clanging of pots and dishes but that was just the distraction.

There was a beautifully plated breakfast waiting for me. My middle son J1 had woken up earlier to prepare me breakfast for my birthday.

I guess all his lessons in school on food technology has finally come in useful. He even insisted on using the right plate, added some blackberries and with sides of maple syrup and nectarine preserve.

Lunch was carefully put together by my daughter ST. She spent her morning dicing and chopping to present to me a warm meal of baked chicken stew with crust. It was creamy and the crust simply melted into the stew.

My dinner was extra special. It was put together by my lovely wife who had started preparing the meal the day before. It was a rich borscht stew, with a beef so tender, it fell apart when you scooped it up with the spoon. The dollop of yogurt added a punch to the stew.

My day was capped with a home baked banana cake by my youngest son J2. He is the baker of the house, putting together exact measurements just to get the right texture of a cake that is firm and yet moist.

By now, you would have guessed that banana is one of my favourite fruits. My boys certainly got that right.

I couldn’t have felt more blessed on that day. I am certainly proud of my kids too…they have come a long way indeed!
